Scope and Contents

The Matthew Arnold Collection represents the writings of Matthew Arnold 1822-1888 with 437 volumes of his works, among these all but two first editions of his writings; four autographed letters; biographical and critical items pertaining to this author; and other letters of literary interest. Contributions to journals by and about Arnold are part of the collection. Originally purchased in 1942, the collection has been augmented over the years.

Christopher Henze served as a member of the Peace Corps in Côte d'Ivoire, before embarking on a lengthy career in the United States Foreign Service.
